Product Description The psalm "Miserere me Deus" is a prayer for mercy, contrition, and renewal. Since the 1630's, Allergri's famous setting has been sung at dawn during Holy Week while the Pope kneels in prayer in the solemn candlelit atmosphere of the Sistine Chapel. The contemporary version, which incorporates material composed by Vladimir Ivanoff, was recorded in the spectral grandeur of Osnabruck Cathedral; "Miserere" join the ethereal harmonies of the Osnabruck Youth Choir with the elegiac brass tones of the cornet, recreating the mystery and the timeless beauty of this sacred classic. .com As with its predecessor, Sacred Treasures II lifts the spirits, warms the soul, and soothes the mind. With reverence, world music composer-conductor Vladimir Ivanoff invigorates the classic Holy Week psalm "Miserere," composed in the 17th century by Roman master composer Gregorio Allegori. Ivanoff extends Allegori's venerable nine-piece offering of contrition with five original tracks. In this manner, Ivanoff not only brings this astounding work to a new audience, but also builds on what has historically been the improvisational nature of the work, with Allegori's masterpiece originally modeled on that of Costanzo Festus. Recorded in a German cathedral, Ivanoff's "Metamorphoses" stars a stunning brass section, which provides near perfect balance to the extraordinary Gregorian styled harmonizing of the Onasbrück Boys Chorus. Sacred Treasures II is a magnificent feat: at once haunting, heartbreaking, and heavenly. --Paige La Grone

It's OK for some, just not for me!!
I was disappointed with this CD. I'm not that fond of a Cornetto instrument and it ruins the choral parts, at least to me it does. I love Sacred Treasures I and III, with it's awesome reverbent and airy choral tones, but II didn't offer near as much and like I said, was ruined in vocal sound by interuptions with an annoying Cornetto, which takes away from the overall loveliness from this type of wonderful music.

Not So Sacred, and No Treasure
The other albums in this series are excellent: full of rich choral masterworks from the Byzantine and Slavic religious traditions. Volume 2, however, is a completely genre: New Agey chanting with music that reminded me, frankly, of excerpts from Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon”. It has nothing to do with the Sistene Chapel, either, in spite of its title. You can skip this one if you want.
