PanPastelArtist Pastels by Golden, 10 Color Palette Tray, Professional Artist Pastels

These covered palette trays may not be as substantial as one might expect; but, they do the job. The plastic they are made of is much like the hard, clear packaging that other products come in. I find that they are necessary to protect my pan pastels as well as provide easy access to several colors at once. The individual lids are a bit of a pain to screw on and colors are difficult to locate if the pans are all screwed together in a column. You can leave the individual lids on when you use the palette cover. I do this for any colors that have broken into powder due to dropping or having been poorly packaged during shipping. You can individualize your palettes as needed. You can get them for 10 or 20 colors; but, I have found that a palette size of 10 colors at a time is adequate and less cumbersome.

Great for organizing your pan pastels. Seems sturdy and flexible. Great for travel.

The PanPastels each fit into the holes perfectly and the lid sits on the base very securely. I opted for the smaller one so they would fit in my work area better. I have purchased four of these so far and none of them have cracked or broken and I've been using the heck out of the PanPastels. Pastel dust can become a problem and the lid can start looking pretty messy, but I just take a tissue and wipe out the lid and it cleans right up. I'm sure you could wash it with soap and water if you needed to, just be sure it's completely dry before you put it back on your PanPastels. The base doesn't flex too much, so I am not too worried about it cracking or breaking. I would worry about the larger one since it would be holding more weight and would, just because of its size, have issues with bending/flexing whenever you pick it up especially if you only picked it up with one hand, which I tend to do. I like this storage solution for my PanPastels and would recommend it to other pastel artists.

As far as I'm concerned this is a necessity. Are they expensive? I think so. But, this has saved me much frustration in seeing which colors I have. Makes using Panpastels easier for me. I will be buying a second tray for my other set of ten Panpastels. I prefer the ten over the twenty cavity tray because of ease of use and storage.

They nicely hold and cover my new pan pastels. Would buy again.

I have two of the large holders but found them too cumbersome for my small working area. With four small ones I can divide pastels according to color and switch the trays easily. With the covers the panpastels are well protected.
